I was keen to talk to you about the enormous potential that the “Long Tail” has within our content strategy, and how it can considerably improve our web positioning or SEO .
When you are thinking about writing content to position your Blog for a certain keyword, sometimes you do not stop to think about the opportunities that certain keywords have when we analyze their Long Tail , but you will see in this post that when you want to write a new article for your Blog, you do not have to think about positioning yourself for a single keyword, but rather you can position yourself for hundreds of keywords .
You heard it right, in this post you will learn how to position yourself in hundreds of keywords, which will logically generate a lot of web traffic to your Blog, and all this with a single article. If you apply it well you can double and even triple your web traffic in just a few months.
What is the Long Tail?
The term Long Tail was born in 2004 thanks to an article published by Chris Anderson . The word “Long Tail” allows us, thanks to technology, to think of a term well known to everyone in the world of online marketing, such as the niche market .
Companies can sell small quantities of their products and make a profit.
Thanks to the Internet, many on page seo service companies can now sell products with greater diversification and covering more market niches, thereby achieving two positive effects: on the one hand, an increase in the company's sales, and on the other hand, a benefit for the consumer because they have a greater offer at their fingertips.
The Long Tail and SEO
When we want to position a business on the Internet, one of the first steps we must take is to carry out a keyword study or, in other words, we carry out a market study in real time. With this study we will obtain information about the interests of users.
When we apply the Long Tail to SEO, what we obtain are the combinations or search suggestions that we can obtain from a base term. In this way, we can cover more specific and smaller niches where it will surely be simpler and easier for us to position ourselves.
I will give you a very simple example so you can see how easy it is to understand the term Long Tail:
google search
When we perform a search on Google , the search engine offers us a series of suggestions that will help us obtain the “Long Tail” of that specific niche.
At first glance we might think that if we make a post for the term “image bank” we will be positioning ourselves in one or several keywords, but if we do a concordance study with the SEMrush tool we see that we can position ourselves in more than 150 combinations of words.

Anyway, now we will go into detail about the techniques and tools that I use on my Blog, and that are giving me such good results, you can see it in the organic evolution of my Blog on Google.

How to Squeeze the “Long Tail” to Improve SEO
We have reached the most practical and interesting part of the post, where I will explain the SEO techniques and tools that I use to get the most out of the Long Tail .
Something I haven't mentioned, but I would like you to know, is that an increase in visibility in the Google search engine will logically translate into a considerable increase in the number of visits to your blog or website, potentially doubling your web traffic in just a few months .
1.- How to find keywords with a broader Long Tail
The objective is simple, we need to find the largest number of topics in our sector and where we have a clear objective of positioning ourselves, and where the number of combinations is hundreds of keywords, or failing that, the largest number possible.
1.- Manual Search. Using this method, we conduct a concordance study of those terms that we want to position or that are in our basic keyword study, and thereby determine which keywords have the highest number of combinations or the best long tail.
2.- Analyzing other similar blogs. The SEMrush tool has a completely mind-blowing feature that allows us to analyze the most visited blogs in our sector and see which ones make the best use of the Long Tail.
To do this, we go to the tools and enter the URL of the Blog to search and then we go to the organic section and click on " Pages ", with which we will obtain the posts that have the most keywords positioned in Google for the Blog. Finally, I recommend that you click on "keywords" to order them from highest to lowest, as seen in the following image.
semrush pages3.- Performing searches by topic. Sometimes, to find a good niche for keywords, we just need to use a little common sense and perform searches for the most important topics in my sector.
Although there is a formula that always works very well and usually contains a large number of keywords as shown in the following examples:
Option 1. What is + Term + and how to use it.
Example: What is a newsletter and how to use it .
It may seem like a very simple title, but in many cases it can contain dozens of keywords.
Option 2. How to create + Term
Example: How to create a YouTube channel and upload a video
This example can have almost 200 variations, so it would be a perfect example to make an article on this topic.

2.- Format that we have to give to the post
Now we are going to see how we design the content structure to have a good On Page SEO and to be able to position ourselves with the greatest number of words possible and thus make the most of the Long Tail.
1.- Content length. I recommend a length of 1,500 to 2,500 words, but I would like to point out that having a longer length does not mean you will rank better for a certain keyword, this is a very common mistake, but by having a longer length in the post I have the possibility of introducing more words and ranking for more variants of my main keyword, it is that simple.
2.- In most blogs, the H1 usually coincides with the title of the article, so we must introduce the keyword as far to the left as possible and introduce the words that generate more combinations of keywords. I recommend that you only introduce one H1 for each article in the blog.
3.- H2, H3, H4 and H5. In this case we can insert several of each one of them, but normally the most used and depending on the structure of the post are H2 and H3. We must take into account not to abuse the main keyword and instead enrich it with semantics or variants of the keyword, and we must insert the keyword in an exact and variable way, and in different places of the title, sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right and sometimes in the center.
4.- Meta Title. Many people make a very basic mistake here, which consists of using the same content that they have put in the H1 or title of the article, thus generating duplicate content that Google dislikes so much. Instead, define a different title where you add your main keyword but where you also use a call to action to increase the CTR and thus receive more clicks and visits to your article.
5.- Meta Description. In this case, I recommend that you write in a couple of sentences, that is, write the best part of your article. The goal is to capture the maximum attention of the user who searches on Google, but don't go overboard with the length since Google will cut your text and in my opinion, this is something we should always avoid.
3.- SEO factors in 2015
searchmetrics content
As every year, the company Searchmetrics has published its study of SEO factors in 2015. For the study, the websites that appear in the TOP 30 for 10,000 different search queries on Google.com (USA) were analyzed, around 300,000 websites.
The following conclusions can be drawn from the study:
Relevant and quality content for the user is a key factor for SEO .
The importance of keywords is losing some of its value, giving way to holistic content, that is, content is analyzed as a whole and in a much more integrated and less fragmented way, which was how it was done until now.
The degree of complexity of the content is an SEO factor to take into account, so we must write content that is easier to understand and covers a much wider audience. Here is a tool to perform a content readability test , as shown in the following image.
readability test
Content length continues to dominate, as evidenced by the fact that the length of content in the Top 30 analysed has increased by 25%.
Technical factors will always be a basic and very important factor in SEO, so start by doing an SEO audit and see what aspects you can improve.
Backlinks, although they have a strong correlation with SEO, their effect continues to be devalued and will continue to lose value in the future, especially all link building that is artificial will be a very dangerous mechanism and will be exposed to harsh penalties.
It is important that you have “nofollow” links so that your links are completely natural.

Signals from user behavior are more important than ever.
The number of images per post is increased and the number of embedded videos is reduced.
Social signals do not directly influence SEO, but they do indirectly, because they make your brand known and help you drive web traffic. However, it does not seem unreasonable to think that Google also uses them as one of many signals that allow it to determine the relevance of new content.
